Exhibition Match at GRD College: A Triumph of Skill, Determination, and Inclusivity

On October 26, 2024, GRD College witnessed an inspiring showcase of resilience and athleticism as Sittruli Foundation’s wheelchair basketball team took the court in an exhilarating exhibition match. This event brought students, faculty, and sports enthusiasts together to experience firsthand the skill, teamwork, and dedication of adaptive athletes who redefine the limits of sports. 

The energy was palpable as Sittruli’s team captivated the audience with their precision passing, strategic gameplay, and unyielding drive. Spectators were not only treated to a thrilling game but were also given the opportunity to understand the determination and hard work that fuels adaptive sports. The exhibition highlighted how wheelchair basketball requires mental and physical agility, just like any other competitive sport, proving that ability, not disability, defines an athlete’s strength. 

GRD College, in collaboration with Sittruli Foundation, aimed to foster a more inclusive community through this event, drawing attention to the importance of accessible sports infrastructure and inclusive athletic opportunities. By showcasing the talent of wheelchair basketball players, this exhibition inspired many to view sports through a new lens, one that values and celebrates diversity.

Sittruli Players Shine at National Championship in Gwalior 

We are incredibly proud to share that four of our outstanding players from Sittruli—Raji, Anitha, Selvapriya, and Vasudevaki—were selected to represent the Tamil Nadu women’s wheelchair basketball team at the prestigious National Championship in Gwalior. Competing against some of the top teams in the country, the Tamil Nadu team showcased immense resilience and teamwork, finishing in 4th place. 

This achievement marks a significant milestone, not only for Tamil Nadu but also for our Sittruli athletes, who continue to push boundaries and excel in adaptive sports. Their dedication to the sport and their commitment to representing Tamil Nadu on the national stage is truly commendable. 

As advocates of adaptive sports and inclusion, we are beyond proud of their achievements. We will continue supporting and nurturing talent, with a vision to take adaptive sports to new heights across the country.
